The original painting, The Sparrow and the Hawk, was featured in the Retrospective exhibition held at Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow in 2013 to celebrate 20 years of Vettriano's career. 

This striking image features Vettriano's signature deep oxblood red walls and dramatically lit interiors; the two principal characters wearing masks to heighten the theatrical effect.
